William Maxwell Lowenstein

William “Bill” Maxwell Lowenstein, 94 of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home the evening of July 8, 2015. His wife of 50 years, Suzie, was at his side. Preceding Bill in death are his parents, Max Meyer Lowenstein and Helen Elizabeth Wolf. Surviving Bill are his wife, Suzanne “Suzie” Lowenstein, his daughter, Linda Gergel of Asheville, NC and her husband Dr. Randy Gergel, his daughter Melanie Baker of Columbia, SC and her husband Frank Baker. His granddaughters, Paige Van Sant of Charleston, SC; Diana Gergel of Seattle, WA and Elizabeth Gergel of Asheville, NC currently attending college in Oregon. His sister, Mrs. Rodger Saloman of Cleveland, OH and her husband.
Bill was born November 22, 1920 in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He entered the armed forces and proudly served our country during World War II. Bill worked in the printing industry and later in his life in the real estate industry. Bill was most proud of his role as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He delighted in bringing joy to his wife, Suzie and their daughters and granddaughters. Bill was an accomplished tennis player. He was also a passionate fan of Frank Sinatra and performed his music at over 100 nursing homes and at McKinnon’s on Saturday nights. Bill loved entertaining audiences with his songs. Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife, Suzie – together they cruised all over the world. Bill always went about his day with a smile and was considered a true and loyal friend by many.
Bill lived a full and happy life. His family would like to extend an invitation for you to join them in a celebration of Bill’s life to be held the end of this month at Park Place on Peachtree – announcement of date and time to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Temple on Peachtree www.the-temple.org or the Jewish Educational Loan Fund www.jelf.org.
