In Loving Memory of William Herman Taylor

William (Bill) Taylor, 89, of Cumming GA, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024.

He was born on July 13, 1934 in Decatur, Illinois to William and Dorothy Haworth Taylor. Bill’s early life was spent in the Milwaukee/Whitefish Bay area of Wisconsin.

He graduated from DePauw University, where he not only received an education but also formed lifelong friendships in Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Tiger football, and developed a passion for Philosophy and Religious Studies.

Professionally, he dedicated many years to higher education institutions, contributing his expertise in Alumni Relations and Development to Eckerd College (St. Petersburg, FL), and Oglethorpe University and Branell College (Atlanta, GA). In 2000, he retired as a realtor from Metro Brokers, where his hard work and commitment left a lasting impact.

Beyond his professional life, Bill was a man of many passions. He loved to read, finding comfort and inspiration in the written word. His musical talents extended to playing the guitar and banjo, bringing joy to those around him. An avid outdoorsman, he participated in activities such as swimming, judo, scuba diving, fishing the Gulf of Mexico, hunting, and canoeing the Boundary Waters of Minnesota/Canada. Bill earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed the freedom of flying.

In addition to his many professional and extracurricular interests Bill was a cherished member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, where he found community, solace, and a sense of purpose.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Karen Lamb Taylor, and his cherished children: Cindy Walton (Scott) of Asheville, NC; Kathy Knight of Jasper, GA; Molly Maddalena of Chattanooga, TN; Silvy Doolin (Phil) of Jasper, GA; Melanie Phillips (Pete Hauenstein) of Atlanta, GA; and Jennifer Taylor (Ty Terry) of Canton, GA. He is also survived by his three granddaughters: Rebecca O’Malley (Chris), Detchon Walton, Marcella Warren (Chase), his two great-granddaughters, Camille and Cora O’Malley, and many nieces and nephews. They will forever cherish his memory.

The family expresses gratitude for the support and condolences during this difficult time.
