William Elliot Simpson, Jr.
William Elliott Simpson Jr., 79, went to be with the Lord on February 28. 2011. He was the son of William Elliott and Mary Elizabeth Simpson. He is survived by beloved wife Martha, sons Jeff and John, and daughter-in-law Michelle. Bill’s interests included astronomy, sailing, camping, travelling, Scouting, teaching Sunday school and serving others. He loved riding on the Silver Comet Trail with his son John, and biked over 1, 200 miles while taking chemo. Bill graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree. He served an officer in the Navy aboard the USS Stephen Potter. Bill had a successful 41 year career working as an engineer for Lockheed Martin where he received numerous engineering awards and held several patents related to his work. He was an active member of Chamblee First United Methodist Church, a Stephen’s Minister and an avid volunteer at the Methodist Children’s Home. Bill generously shared his kindness, wisdom, and humor and he will be desperately missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Chamblee First United Methodist Church on March 19, 2011 at 11:00 with lunch to follow. A visitation will be held at 10:00 at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bill’s honor to the Chamblee First United Methodist Church Restoration Fund, The United Methodist Children’s Home, or the Visiting Nurse Association of Atlanta
