Virginia Pearl Canady
Virginia Pearl Canady, 85, passed away July 01, 2015.
Ms. Canady was an alumni of Coker College, University of Tennessee, and the University of Georgia. She was a Teacher and Coach at North Charleston High School and Druid Hills High School. Coach Canady was the first Female Women’s Basketball coach to win a Georgia State Championship 1960 at Druid Hills High School. She was also an Assistant Professor of Health and Physical Education and Coach at LaGrange College and the College of Charleston. Coach Canady had a great influence on many of her students and was known for the manner in which she coached – quietly and calmly no matter the status of the game. This approach mirrored her relationships with friends and family off of the court. She was a truly kind, gentle, and loving person.
She was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church and the Guiding Light Sunday School Class since 1976.
Ms. Canady was preceded in death by Mother Pearl Virginia Murray Canady, Father Leland Wesley Canady and Brothers Darrell Wesley and James ‘Punky’ Murray.
Survived by Nieces/Nephews: Leland Martha of Monticello, Fl, son Robert, Ginny of Charleston SC, James ‘Jim’ Anne of Goose Creek SC, Brian Brenda of McDonough, Ga, Daughter Crystal ElsterMichael and Son Daniel Sarah.

Memorial service will be held at Zoar United Methodist Church in Snellville, GA Saturday July 18 at 10AM.
