Virginia Catherine Trantham
On Sunday morning, October 30th, 2016 Cathy went to be with Jesus. Cathy was at Dekalb Medical Hospital suffering from complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis. At 61 years old, she was at peace, ready to be free of this disease. Family members and close friends had visited her the last few days, sharing memories from years passed.
Cathy was born in St. John’s New Foundland, Canada on May 23rd, 1955. She was the first born of Hugh Everette and Madonna Frances Antle Wages. The majority of Cathy’s life was spent in Decatur and Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Cathy was preceded in death by both parents, Hugh and Madonna Wages and her ex-husband Charlie Trantham. Cathy is survived by her daughter Crystal Summer and husband Brian, her granddaughter Charlee Grace Summer, her siblings and their spouses – Bobby Wages with Sherri Townsend, Chris Wages and wife Maggie, Trish Knowlton with Tom Ward, Connie Doty and husband Bill Doty, nieces/nephews – Rebecca Clarke and husband Michael and great nephew Addison James Clarke, Mitchell Doty and Adam Doty.
For over 35 years, Cathy worked for several pharmacies Stacey’s Pharmacy of Decatur, McKinney’s Apothecary of Decatur and both Emory Pointe and Dekalb Medical CVS stores as a Pharmacy Assistant/Tech. She was passionate about her work and loved her customers. She worked everyday with a smile, lending a hand wherever needed. Cathy was appreciated by those that recognized her knowledge and expertise.
Cathy cherished time with her daughter Crystal and granddaughter Charlee Grace. They enjoyed reading books, girl-time shopping and getting their nails done. Cathy also loved spending time with her friends and neighbors walking at Stone Mountain, bowling, dancing to country music, watching Georgia Bulldogs football, cooking and baking special birthday desserts for everyone. Cathy was kind hearted and selfless, impacting the lives of everyone she met.
Until the day she left us, Cathy put others first. She desired to contribute to Pulmonary Fibrosis research, to help prevent others from suffering as she did.
