Thomas Richard Williamson III
Dr. Thomas R. Terry Williamson, III, 66, died June 11, 2012 in Marietta, GA.
Terry was born April 1, 1946 in Rio de Janeiro to Nancy Schade Williamson and T. R. Williamson, Jr. of Johnstown, PA. His father was based in Rio while flying for the Pan Am/Red Cross war effort. Terry grew up in Camberley, Surrey, England and attended Holme Grange Preparatory School. Returning to the US in 1961, he graduated from Coral Gables High School in Coral Gables, FL.
Terry earned a BS in chemistry from Emory University, Atlanta, and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He attended the Sorbonne in Paris during his junior year. Upon graduation, Terry volunteered for a 2 year tour in the army, and served 19 months in Vietnam earning a rank of Specialist 4th Class. Returning home, he continued his education by earning a PhD in physical chemistry nanotechnology and semi-conductors from the University of Miami while working full time for Motorola, Inc.
In 1983, Terry entered law school and earned a JD degree from the University of Miami. Several years later, he passed exams in NJ and GA to practice patent law. He returned to Atlanta in 2003, and joined Myers and Kaplan Intellectual Property Law where he worked for 3 years. In 2006, he opened his own intellectual property firm in Marietta, GA. Terry was a member of AIPLA, the GA Bar Association, and the Atlanta Bar Association.
Terry is survived by his wife, Elizabeth M. Williamson, his first cousin, Barbara C. Cody, his uncle, Glenn Williamson, two daughters, Meri Lyn Hurst and Joy Williamson and four step children, Nicole Grabinski, Stephan Vegliante, Kimberly Vegliante and Michelle Vegliante.
A private celebration of life memorial service will be held in the coming weeks. In honor of Terry’s life, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
