Thomas Duke

A Memorial Service for Thomas W. Duke, age 79, will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011, at St. Andrew UMC, 3455 Canton Rd. Marietta, GA. 30066 at 2:00 PM. Guests will be welcomed to a reception at the church following the service. “Tom” was born September 15, 1931 in Archer City, TX. His parents were Pearl Maloney Duke and Robert Bowen Duke. Tom was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Texas A&M with a PhD in Oceanography after serving as a Lt. in the Air Force. He retired from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as Laboratory Director of marine biological research in Gulf Breeze, FL. After retirement, he spent five years as an environmental consultant. Tom and his wife of fifty-six years, Elizabeth, moved to Woodstock in 2006 to be near their son and his family. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Porter Duke, his son, Wade, daughter-in-law, Debbie Tuttle Duke, and three grandsons, Austin, Tyler, and Cameron. His daughter, Valerie Ann Duke and his brother, Robert Bowen Duke, precede Tom in death. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Andrew UMC or the American Heart Assoc. or other charities of choice.
