Suzanne Maynard Hibbs
Suzanne Maynard Hibbs died on March 15 after suffering a severe and completely
unexpected stroke on March 13. She was preceded in death by her parents;
Thomas Franklin Maynard, and Elizabeth O’Barr Maynard; and her brother,
Burson Maynard.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dr. Stan Hibbs and two sons, David
& Andrew.
Suzanne was born in Winder, GA on July 28, 1952. She graduated from the
University of Georgia in 1974. She began her professional career as a researcher
in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget and then as a researcher for the
Georgia State Senate.
Her final governmental job was as a historic preservationist for the Georgia
Department of Archives and History. She oversaw the restoration of Rhodes Hall
in Midtown Atlanta and wrote many of the “This Day in Georgia History” radio
spots that were aired by then Secretary of State, Max Cleland.
After staying home with her sons while they were young, Suzanne pursued the
career that was always meant for her, teaching preschool children. Her first
teaching position was at Chamblee Methodist Kindergarten. Since 2007, she had
taught at Trinity School.
As a teacher, Suzanne had a special place in her heart for the child who was
struggling the most and went out of her way to take them under her wing. Her
gentle spirit and firm discipline always brought out the best in each child. Her loss
will be deeply felt by countless students, colleagues, friends, and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you donate in Suzanne’s memory to
our favorite charity. Suzanne gave regularly to The American Cancer Society, The
Kidney Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, The American Lung Association, and
The Salvation Army.
A Memorial Service to honor Suzanne will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 7 at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338.

Suzanne and I grew up together. Besides school, we shared Girl Scouts and an unforgettable trip to Europe. My heart goes out to her family. You are in my prayers.
I too was a classmate of Suzanne’s from Winder-Barrow Schools. I have so many great memories of her from scouts,to a trip to Europe,to being in the school band and on and on! Prayers for her family. God just gained a wonderful Angel!
I will Miss Suzanne’s humor and support! She was a delight to work with and brought a smile to so many children she taught.

I am so sorry to hear about Suzanne. I met her many years ago as I am from Winder also. She was a very sweet and caring young woman then, so I am not surprised of all the things she accomplished through the years. All of the family will continue to be in my prayers. God will never leave you or forsake you.
Suzanne had such a heart for each child who crossed her path. She was a treasured teacher, colleague, and friend. She will be greatly missed by many.
Suzanne has touched many by her spirit, energy, and strength. We will miss her.

I didn’t know Suzanne but I grew up with Stan from the 6th grade onward. Take care of the “business” first, Stan, grieve later. The class of 1965 grieves with you. So sorry to hear of her passing. Best wishes and thoughts be with you.
I had the pleasure of spending a little time with Suzanne last summer at Montreat. I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers for all of you at this very sad time.
Stan, I am devastated to learn of Suzanne’s passing. I remember so fondly our time together at the Archives and what a special person she was–kind, bright, caring, funny, and loving. My thoughts and prayers for you and the boys. May you find comfort in knowing how much she was loved by so many.

I am so very sorry for all of you with the loss of your beloved wife and mother. My prayers and those of some folks in other parts of the country will remain active. Praying for all of you to go through this difficult time with the knowledge that you will be together again one day. Please take comfort in Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Stan and family, My prayers are with you during this time. The Chamblee Methodist Preschool and Kdg.staff have many fond memories of Suzanne when she taught with us. I know Stan through our weight watchers group and At DUMC and I know they will also be lifting you up…grace and peace.
She was even graceful in high school. One of my early loves. One never forgets people like her.
Ms Suzanne was an angel to us as the current teacher to our PreK-er, and we are deeply mourning her loss. We will never forget her kind heart and loving manner. We were so blessed to have known Suzanne. Continued prayers for your family

I worked with Suzanne at Trinity School and she was just awesome with the young children. She was a pleasure to work with and she will be missed in so many ways by so many people. My condolences to all of the family
Suzanne taught my daughter at Chamblee Methodist and we were thrilled to see her again when we joined Dunwoody United Methodist. She was a kind yet firm and very loving teacher who also was very supportive to parents. We were so lucky to begin our school career with Suzanne. My daughter is now twenty years old but her first days at Chamblee Methodist remain a part of her and fostered a love of learning. Suzanne certainly had a big role in those early days and years. I pray for her family and for her sweet class at Trinity this year. A beloved teacher is most special indeed and Suzanne was very much loved.
Suzanne and I were good friends at County Line Elementary School when we were younger, then attended Winder Barrow High School together also. We spent many nights with each other when we were younger and shared many good times. She was always such a kind and caring person. My prayers are for your family.
