Stuart A Peebles
Stuart A. Peebles passed away March 10, 2017, in Dunwoody, following an extended illness. He was born April 2, 1926, in Syracuse, NY, and is survived by his wife Sallie Moore Peebles of Dunwoody; two sons David Peebles (Sheila Lemke) of Syracuse and Andrew Peebles (Genelle) of Skaneateles, NY; and daughter Susan McLaughlin (David) of Seneca, S.C. as well as six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; nephew Chuck Sandford of Atlanta and niece Priscilla Worral of Skaneateles, NY.
Mr. Peebles was a graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s degree in Business Accounting. He was associated with Allied Chemical Co. in Syracuse and New York City until 1970.
From 1971 until 1999, he was president and principal owner of the Tidwell Office Supply Company in downtown Atlanta. He headed the Fairlie Poplar Task Force and was instrumental in restoration of the area. He was a member of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Atlanta Convention Bureau and Central Atlanta Progress. He was a member of the Peachtree Kiwanis Club where he served as president and lieutenant governor of Division 1. He was a member of the Atlanta Chapter of the Financial
Executives Institute where he served as president.
He and his wife lived in Rome, Georgia from 2003 until 2012 where they were involved in St. Peters Episcopal Church and a variety of civic activities. They returned to Atlanta to be near family.
In addition to his immediate family, he leaves a step son, three step daughters, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Mr. Peebles was a long time communicant of the Cathedral of St. Philip. A service will be held there on Monday, March 20th, at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cathedral of St. Philip.
