Stewart T. Moran

Stewart T. Moran, age 92, died peacefully June 19th, 2012 in Atlanta, GA. He was born in Saulte Ste. Marie, MI in 1919 where he also grew up. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1941 and married the former Jean S. Ryerson in 1943 before shipping out for the European theater of WWII with the Manitoba Dragoons of the Canadian Army, which he joined following his college graduation when the US Army refused him due to vision problems. He returned to Michigan after the war and lived briefly in Jackson, MI before returning with his family to Saulte Ste. Marie to work in the family business the Lock City Lumber Co. He was involved in various community and business positions during his career even including a short duty as a postmaster. He finished his working life at the Edison Saulte Electric Co. from which he retired in 1987. He and his wife then moved to Brevard, NC where they lived until his wife’s death in 2000. Worsening health problems resulted in a move to Atlanta, GA, where his daughter and son-in-law live, in 2005. He was an avid outdoorsman hiking in the Pisgah National Forest of NC well into his 80’s. He was also a lifelong supporter of the American Red Cross and various Historical groups. He will long be remembered for his sense of humor, wisdom, kindness and sparkling blue eyes. He is survived by his son Stewart T. Mike Moran Jr. and wife Kay, his daughter Nancy Moran Yang and her husband William and his two grandsons Stewart T. Moran III and Todd J. Moran and wife Tina. A private family service is to be held followed the dispersion of his ashes in the mountains of North Carolina where his wife of 57 years, Jean’s, also rest.
so sorry to hear of the passing of uncle Stewart. i have fond memories of him and Jean.
John is in West Africa as I type and i will let him know of his uncle’s passing.
