Sidney Dillard Lines of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully at Hospice Atlanta June 6, 2010. She was born in 1912 in Glen Wilton, Virginia, the daughter of Lillian and Sidney Dillard. She graduated from Medical College of Virginia and was a kind and compassionate nurse to her many patients at Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She met and married her loving husband of 63 years, the late Robert Edwin Lines in Virginia where they made their first home. In 1941 they moved to Atlanta. Sidney Lines was the school nurse for 13 years at Hoke Smith High School and later transferred to East Atlanta High School. The students found her to be professional, personable, and compassionate while always maintaining an incredible sense of humor. She was also involved in the Health Careers Program for the Atlanta School System. She later continued her nursing career at Piedmont Hospital for seven years. During President Jimmy Carter’s first campaign for the Presidency, Sidney Lines was a member of the original Peanut Brigade, traveling to up New Hampshire campaigning for Mr. Carter. She attended the Presidential inauguration with her husband and enjoyed several visits to the White House. Her hobbies included reading, playing golf and bridge and ministering to others needs. Sidney especially enjoyed planning trips with her family. The unconditional love and spiritual leadership she provided for each family member will be an everlasting legacy. Sidney was a long time member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church where she valued her Sunday school friendships. Her laughter was contagious and her smile so endearing. Sidney was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Webb and son-in law, Angus McAllister. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Sydney McAllister, son-in-law, Tony Webb and his wife, Toni, five grandchildren, Greggory, Bryan and Darron Webb, Sydney McGuire and Sanford McAllister, ten great grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews and a special family friend, John Long. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery preceding a memorial service which will be held June 10, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Clairmont Presbyterian Church with the family receiving friends at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice Atlanta or Clairmont Presbyterian Church, Decatur, GA
