Sandra Joyce Taylor

Sandra Nicholas Taylor, 74, of LaGrange, Georgia died October 17, 2012 at Hospice LaGrange surrounded by her family.
She was born August 13, 1938 in Kimberly, AL. She was the daughter of the late Curtis and Pearl Nicholas. On November 11, 1962, she married James M. Taylor who passed away in 2004. Sandy is survived by her daughters Stephanie Dixon, Janice Page, and Joy Lunardini, and son James M. Taylor, Jr. She is also survived by her siblings John Nicholas, Lillian Strode, and Danny Nicholas, and nine grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brothers Clarence Terrrell Nicholas, Hugh Ronald Nicholas, Charles Raymond Nicholas, and sister Janice Nicholas Franks “Honey”.
Sandy was a 1956 graduate from Carbon Hill High School. As a life long learner, she earned three degrees. Her first degree was in Nursing from Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing in 1970. She then attended the University of Alabama – Birmingham’s Physician Assistant Program in 1974, and subsequently obtained her degree in Primary Care Medicine in 1981.
Sandy practiced as a nurse and physician assistant for 40 years. She retired from the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama in 1997 and Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia in 2005. She served in the Air Force and Air National Guard where she received many commendations.
Sandy retired to Vernon Woods Retirement Community where she especially enjoyed caring for her Shih Tzu, Riley. She also enjoyed music, dancing, yoga and Tai chi.
A memorial service will be held on November 11th at 2pm at Vernon Woods Retirement Community in LaGrange, Georgia.
