Ruth Elaine Overbay

Ruth Elaine Ashburn Overbay, 85, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away on March 15, 2015.
Ruth was born in New London, CT on April 17, 1929 to Montford and Elaine Sturges Ashburn. She graduated from the Williams Memorial Institute in 1947. On August 5, 1950, she married LCDR William A. Overbay USN. During their 54 years of marriage they lived and traveled all over the country before retiring in Atlanta, near their great friends Robert and Shirley Mayer.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband William and her parents Montford and Elaine Ashburn. She is survived by two daughters, Wendy Peter Yandow, Dawn Kempf, one son, Blake Joy Overbay, 6 grandchildren, Heather Yandow, Kim Todd Lyle, Crystal Jason Howard, Eric Overbay, Ryan Overbay and Tanner Overbay and 4 great grandchildren, Abigail Howard, Riley Howard, Hannah Lyle and Hunter Lyle. She is also survived by her beloved sisters Shirley John McGrath, Dorothy Almeida, Virginia Joseph Romano, Joan Gessner and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held this summer at the Mohegan Indian Burial Grounds at Fort Shantok in Montville, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The American Cancer Society. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Ivy Hall Assisted Living Facility and New Century Hospice for their caring support in her final days.
