Ross Rogers Bacon

Ross Bacon, 89, of Oxford, GA, died peacefully in the presence of his family after a 12-year long battle with Altzheimer’s disease on Sunday, May 25, 2014.
Born September 15, 1924 in Hopkinsville, KY, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Hubbard Bacon and his son Mark Bacon of Chester, WV.; brothers Guy and Phillip Bacon; sisters Polly Ann and Marietta Bacon; as well as his identical twin Allen Bacon.
Surviving him is his daughter Brenda Bacon Harmon and her husband, Steve, who live in Lilburn, Ga. He also leaves behind two grandsons, Emerson 16 years and Ian 14 years.
Ross was a veteran of WWII and he served in the Navy, the Army, and the Air Force throughout his career. He retired from the military after 22 years of service and worked at Crucible Steel for many years until the plant shut down in the early 1980s. Ross was a walking enthusiast who many referred to as the “Dog Man of Chester”. He continued to walk and exercise daily until his illness finally confined him to a wheelchair this past January. He was a wonderful and gentle man who spent his final years helping others as long as he was able. Ross maintained a positive attitude in the face of adversity and was respected and loved by all those who knew him.
A private memorial service will be held at the graveside in July.
