ROBERT (ROB) WALTON MAXWELL (February 20, 1987 – June 25, 2023) passed away unexpectedly on the 25th of June in Cornelia, Georgia. Robert was born 36 years ago in Savannah, lived the majority of his childhood in Cataula, Georgia and had hundreds of nature-loving artistic friends in north Georgia where he spent the bulk of the latter part of his life. He was a graduate of Brookstone School in Columbus and Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta. Rob had a flair for enjoying life in everything he did and touched the lives of many people through his love for art and music. Rob had an artistic eye and a gift for making jewelry which was a talent he discovered only after graduating from SCAD. His favorite passions were connecting with people, making us laugh, sharing his heart and being outdoors to enjoy the beauty of God’s world. Most especially, Rob loved hiking the Appalachian Trail, particularly in North Georgia, and he was fascinated by all types of rocks found on this earth. He loved collecting rocks, gems, and minerals, and he loved even more to share his extensive knowledge of them. Robert was a kind and thoughtful soul who believed in God and had just recently confirmed his faith stating that he knew he would be in heaven with our Lord. Robert was named for his maternal grandfather, Robert “Bob” Walton of Columbus, who precedes him in death. Also preceding him in death are his maternal grandmother, Jo Walton, of Columbus; his paternal grandparents, Reverend George and Virginia Maxwell of Savannah and his special-needs aunt, Beth Walton of Cataula, Georgia. Robert is survived by a family who loved and adored him which include his mother Brenda Walton Hall, his father John Maxwell of Savannah, GA and his stepfather Ken Hall who raised him as his own son; his godparents Michael and Corinne Reeves of Bluffton, South Carolina; his maternal step-grandmother Lois Gunn Hall of Augusta, Georgia; his loving three older brothers John Maxwell, Jr (Merian) of Columbus; James Hall (Lisa) of Augusta; Brian “Buddy Lee” Hall (Heather) of Upatoi, Georgia; his beautiful younger sisters Virginia Maxwell of Atlanta and Margaret Maxwell of Savannah as well as their mother Nella Maxwell. Survivors also include many aunts, uncles and cousins along with his four nieces Natalie Hayes, Khloe Hall, Madilee Maxwell and Caroline Hall as well as his six nephews Garrett Hall, Garrett Hayes, JT Maxwell III, Henry Maxwell, Memphis Hall and Walton Maxwell. A private family service will be held later in Augusta, Georgia with other celebrations of life to follow for all who loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family knows that Rob would ask that you spend more time with friends outdoors marveling God’s creation of this earth and if you are so inclined, to think of him when you pick up an unusual rock.
