Robert Oran Brooks
Bob Brooks passed away peacefully on April 21st, 2017. He was 91 years old. Bob was born in Nebraska, and grew up in Mango, Florida outside of Tampa. He was a Navy veteran and graduated from The University of Florida in 1948, where he participated in Track, Basketball, Student Government, Blue Key and was a proud member of Phi Delta Theta. He started his 30+ year career with the Home Insurance Company in Jacksonville, FL in 1950. He was transferred to Miami, FL, where he met his wife Lynette. They married in 1958, and later moved to Charlotte, N.C. where they spent 14 years, and where all 4 of their children were born. In 1972 Bob was promoted and transferred to their headquarters in NYC. After 4 years in the Big Apple, Bob desired to return to the field, and in 1974 he was rewarded with the opportunity to move to Atlanta where the family permanently settled in Dunwoody. Bob finished his career with the Royal Insurance Company. Bob, Lynette and their children were fortunate to have lived in the Mill Glenn subdivision and developed life-long friendships with wonderful neighbors. All four of the Brooks’ children graduated from Dunwoody HS. Bob was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church in Dunwoody, GA. for over 35 years. Bob was also an avid golfer, and enjoyed tennis after moving to Atlanta. He loved a good meal with family and friends, and in his last decade especially loved his outings to Pig-n-Chic BBQ and the 48th Street Market. Bob loved travel, telling grand stories, and had a wonderful sense of humor, loving both good and bad jokes. He was an adored husband and father and is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lynette and their 4 children – Mark Brooks (Laura) of Denver, CO, Brian Brooks (MaryAnn) of Great Falls, VA, Alison Thompson (Scott) of Vinings, GA, Kevin Brooks of Marietta, GA; 2 nieces Charlotte Gillis(Tracy Brown) of Atlanta, GA, and Patrice Gillis of Brandon, FL; and 3 grandchildren Isabella, Raymond, and Lilliana Brooks; as well as his loyal German Shepherd Toby. He will be missed by all.

A ‘celebration of life’ ceremony will be held in June for family and friends to pay tribute to his life.
