Robert Morris Bush
Robert Morris Bush, 71, died Friday, April 10 of complications of metastatic melanoma. He was born on October 28, 1943, son of Morris and Ethel Jordan Bush. Mr. Bush graduated from Thomasville High School in 1961, and received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1967. He attended the Attingham Summer School in 1967 in Shropshire, England; this was a life-changing experience for him and remained an important artistic connection. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, Engineering Division, from1967-1971, stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and in Vietnam. Following his service, he worked for Thomas Stanley, Architect in Savannah, Georgia, and then worked as a single practitioner winning a number of AIA awards for design and historic preservation. He directed the Interior Design Department of Perkins + Will in Atlanta in 1987 and then established a Designer Showroom and import business at the Atlanta Design Center. He also worked in the hospitality industry with Marriott International and InterContinental Hotels Group. He retired as the Vice President/Director of Interior Design for PageSoutherlandPage in Washington, DC. Mr. Bush was a member of the Confrerie des Diamants Noirs Fraternity of the Black Truffles, which celebrates the cultivation of black truffles in France with a mass in Richerenches, L’Enclave des Papes every January. Mr. Bush is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Jorgensen Bush. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Emily Marion Bush, Thomasville, Georgia; Maren J. Alan Hicks, San Francisco, California; and Anna J. Hays Mershon, Atlanta, Georgia. A memorial service will be held at two o’clock, P.M. on Thursday, April16, 2015, at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta, Georgia, with interment of ashes to follow in the church’s memorial garden, and the family will receive friends following the service in the Cathedral’s Gould Room.
