Oscar James Owen of Atlanta, Georgia and recently of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, died in Atlanta on December 1, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born on November 29, 1926 in New York City, son of Oscar Jesse and Elizabeth Landon Owen. He grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, where he developed a life-long love of sports and dogs, and his trademark sense of humor. Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and served as an anti-aircraft gunner in the Asiatic Pacific Area on the USS Colorado, and USS Indiana in the occupation of Japan campaign. After his discharge he attended and graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. At college, he fell in love with and married Ann Ahlum of Chicago, Illinois in 1948. There they had a daughter, Katherine Ford. After graduation he began a long and varied sales career in packaging, for American Can Company, Mead Packaging, Johnson Controls and others. This took him all over the country, and they enjoyed living in numerous states. He moved the family to Atlanta in 1964 and, an avid golfer, alternated between Hilton Head and Atlanta from then on. He is survived by his wife Ann and daughter Katherine, both of Atlanta, and nephew David Fisher and brother-in-law Eugene Fisher both of Plymouth, Michigan. Commemoration plans are not yet complete.
