Orvis served his country during WWII in the Navy.
After his Navy service, he continued his education, ultimately earning a Doctorate in Education from New York University, where he was chosen to receive the distinguished Founders Day Award.
Orvis married Mary Margaret Krug. They were happily married for 48 years and had five children, who he referred to as “My fabulous five.”
