Matthew Steven Lindsey
Matt, Age 38, of Smyrna, Georgia, passed away suddenly on December 15th. Beloved husband of Stephanie, loving and adoring father of Kolby. Matt is also survived by his mother Debra Hallmark, his father David Lindsey, his stepfather Eric Hallmark, his stepmother Amy Lindsey, his brother Tyler, his sister Dana, his sisters-in-law Brittany (Ryan) and Jennifer (Sean), his nieces Emerson and Harley, and his nephews Mac, Harrison, Persy, and Kepler.
Matt Graduated from Collierville High School in Collierville, TN, in 2001. He served his country in the Navy and the Navy Reserves, achieving the rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate Airman. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, and he was honorably discharged in 2013.
He was proud to serve his Country. In all aspects and stages of his life, Matt took his role as guardian seriously, but most particularly when it came to Stephanie and Kolby. He was clearly born to play the roles of husband and father. Until Kolby was born, no one had ever seen Matt treat anything quite so delicately.
His infectious laugh and warm nature made him a wonderful companion and treasured friend. Whether he was discussing politics, his pet dogs, his ambitions in life, or his family, Matt was clear, purposeful, and passionate. He didn’t waste time on small talk and didn’t invest much time in those who did. He viewed his word as his bond, and he expected others to do the same. These character traits made Matt a respected and warm friend to many.
Matt left us at much too young an age, and his loss will be felt deeply by all those who knew and loved him.
His internment will be held on Friday, March 25th at 11 AM CST at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN. There will be a Celebration of Life held at the VFW Collierville Post 5066 following the burial.
