Mary Ellen Barnes
Mary Ellen Woodall Barnes, 71, passed away on April 29th 2016 in Atlanta Georgia.
Mary was born on November 10, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia to Jack and Belva Woodall. She was graduated from Druid Hills High School and attended Georgia State University and Crawford W. Long School of Nursing. In 1965 Mary married Dr. Joseph Henry Barnes of Tallapoosa, Georgia.
In their early years Mary and Joe lived throughout the South for training and military assignments. They returned to Mary’s beloved Atlanta in 1970 after starting their family. In Atlanta, Mary continued her career in Nursing at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
While her profession was as a nurse, Mary’s true calling was her dedication to her family and friends. Her children and her husband were always her focus, and she thrived at creating a happy and vibrant home. Later, Mary was the cherished “Gam” of 4 Grandchildren who adored her. She will always be remembered for her warming smile, her beauty and grace, her humor and her love of life. Mary enjoyed travel, entertaining, and quality time with friends and family.
Mary was an active member of Peachtree Christian Church and was an officer in the Group of Rachel through the Church. She was also instrumental in the creation and development of Peachtree Christian Hospice.
She is survived by her husband by Dr. Joseph H. Barnes, her daughter Emily B. Toffoli and husband Dr. Thomas John Toffoli, her daughter Jennifer A. Mosley and husband Dr. Emmett Wayne Mosley, her Grandchildren Joseph, Anna, Matthew and Eva Mosley, her Sisters Beverly Eith and Emily Godlewski, her brother Jack Woodall and her precious and beloved Yorkie, Izzy.
She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Jackson Woodall and Belva Floyd Woodall and her sister Nancy Woodall Jones.
A memorial service will be held at Peachtree Christian Church on May 15, 2016 at 2pm. Dr. Bob Tyler will officiate. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Peachtree Christian Hospice or The Heritage Fund for Peachtree Christian Church.
My deepest sympathies to your family. The Bible tells us that God created us to live forever. His purpose for mankind did not include sickness and death. Isaiah 25 : 8 Draw comfort from Revelations 21 : 3,4 where God’s promises give us hope for the future.
I am so sad to hear of Mary’s passing. I have not had contact with Mary in many years, but I have such fond memories of our time together at Druid Hills and at her house. We were big “buddies” in elementary school. My sympathy and loving thoughts are with her family!
Dear Joe and Family,
I am so sorry to here about Mary. May the Lord comfort you all in your loss.
Blessings to you all,
Charles Woodall
Joe: We are both very saddened by the loss of our friend Mary. Suzanne had first met her while we were at an ACOG meeting in Fullerton, Calif a long time ago and Suzanne was always fond of you both.
I knew Mary was ill but her loss was quite unexpected.
We will attend the memorial and our prayers go out to you and your family.
