Mary Elizabeth Kidd Hudgins
Mary Kidd Hudgins passed away peacefully at her younger son’s home in Cartersville on Sunday morning, September 5, 2021. She was 83 years old.
A native Atlantan, she grew up in the Grove Park area and attended West Fulton High School, where she met her husband, Kent Hudgins (1935-1999). After she married, she went to work for her family’s business (Atlanta Metal Products) initially as a bookkeeper, and continued her employment there for 36 years working as the Corporate Secretary and a registered agent of the business.
Mary moved with her husband and two sons to Mableton, Georgia, in 1963, where she lived for the next 58 years. She was an energetic working mother who was actively involved with her two sons’ school and extracurricular activities. She was generous and devoted to her children, keeping them as the first priority in her life. After her two sons were grown and married, Mary continued to work at the family business until it was sold in 1999. She officially retired that same year.
As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she was a zealous preacher of the Good News about God’s Kingdom. She worked as a full-time pioneer up until her health prevented her from continuing in 2018. She was known by her fellow pioneer partners to be a loyal, generous and considerate friend who worked tirelessly with them in the kingdom ministry and evangelizing work. She was instrumental in helping many individuals hear and learn the truth of God’s word. Mary was also actively involved in the volunteer construction work of Kingdom Halls built around the Atlanta area, including the Assembly Hall in Conyers, Georgia, built in 2005. Additionally, she volunteered her time during the circuit and regional assemblies of Jehovah’s Witnesses, assisting with the auditing departments as well as helping to clean the facilities before and after the events.
Her strong faith was exemplified by her belief in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection. Although she wanted to witness and see the greatest saving act ever to be carried out by Jehovah God when he eradicates the wicked conditions from the earth (Psalm 37:10, 11), she was content to know that if she experienced death beforehand, she would be resurrected shortly thereafter (John 11:25). She has maintained this belief from the time her Father taught her the Bible’s Kingdom message of a righteous new world when she was nine years old. (2 Peter 3:13; Psalm 37:29.)
Mary will be dearly missed by those of her family who survive her, including her two sons, Kenton Hudgins and his wife Denise of Gainesville, Georgia, and Chris Hudgins and his wife Denise of Cartersville, Georgia, three brothers, Max Kidd and his wife Anne of Kennesaw, Georgia, Charles Kidd and his wife Sharon of Jasper, Georgia, and Wayne Kidd and his wife Jan of Kennesaw, Georgia, and her sister Rhonda Harris and her husband Bill of Mableton, Georgia. She also has four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her Father, J.M. (Mack) Kidd and Mother, Lucille B. (Nanny) Kidd and her brother, Nathan Phillip Kidd all of Smyrna, Georgia.
