On July 7, 2015, after a nearly 8 year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, Marsha Brautigam Moreland died peacefully at the age of 63 while surrounded by her family. She was born December 21, 1951 in Tallahassee, FL, the daughter of Nancy Carn and Anthony Raymond Brautigam.

Marsha married John Adam Moreland at the age of 18 and they celebrated 44 years of marriage together. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Marsha was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, John, her 4 children, Carn, Betsy, Adam and Abby as well as her sister, Nan McCormick and her niece, Padgett McCormick. Marsha has 6 grandchildren, Ben, Andy, Libby, Trey, Jackson and Esther.

Marsha’s family would like to thank the caring staff of Atria Johnson Ferry, the Fountainview Center and Crossroads Hospice who provided loving care and support during Marsha’s illness.

We will celebrate Marsha’s life on July 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the Student Center of Eastside Baptist Church located at 2450 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA, 30068. Marsha requested that her friends and family set aside any sadness, wear colorful attire and come together to truly celebrate her full restoration in the loving arms of Jesus. She is dancing and singing in Heaven today.

John and family, Marsha meant so much to so many, including myself and my family. I loved serving with her in the Recreation Ministry at Eastside. She was such a blessing, an encouragement, and an inspiration to so many as she lived out her faith through fitness and exercise, which she loved. Eastside Baptist Church still feels the ripples of her ministry. She will always be remembered by the hundreds and hundreds she ministered to. I celebrate her incredible life with you. Grace and peace to each of you as you honor her life.

  18. Helene Davis says:

How often while I taught Art did I see and hear Marsha running up and down the CAC stairs with a horde of exercising women running too?! She lived on the run and every minute mattered. She was invested, cared, and listened when it came to people. Our loss is heaven’s gain. She’s home and has already gone to work.

I had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Moreland at UGA on a few occasions and every time I did, I saw exactly where Abby got so many amazing traits and characteristics that drew me to Abby as an amazing friend – they came from her Mom. She is a lovely person.

My sincerest thoughts, prayers, and condolences,

  22. Barry Stover says:

As I type this I am at work, trying not to tear up it’s not working from all the wonderful memories from John and Marsha. Marsha was such a brilliant light for Jesus and so fun to be around. She was gracious, a servant, full of the joy of the Lord, and the impact that she had on me and Barb and so many others is really crazy. When John taught our Sunday school class at EBC, had people over to their home, taught Bible Studies, looking back it was supernatural. John got up very early to go to work, they had a home full of children to raise, and yet found time to impact our world for Jesus. There are people that the Lord brings into your life that you can not imagine life without them, Marsha and John are two for me. I love you both and look forward to spending eternity with you. I can see Marsha smiling in heaven now and really can not imagine heaven…well…I can only imagine…sounds like a song….

  23. Kathryn and Vince Carlino says:

Marsha was an inspiration to us and so many others. She definitely impacted the world for Jesus whether she was speaking at a bible study or motivating others to trust in Christ. The joy of the Lord was her witness through her smile and twinkle in her eye. She motivated and encouraged others, even when she had her car accident; she gave testimony to the power of Christ in her life. May the Lord comfort you with His peace as you celebrate her life. We are praying for you.

  44. byron camp says:

I am deeply saddened to learn of Marsha’s passing. Although I knew she had been ill for some time, this news still overwhelmed me. Marsha and I grew up on the same street in Tallahassee where we were friends since childhood. There simply aren’t enough positive adjectives to describe her from looks, intelligence, personality, devotion just to say a few. She was beautiful inside and out. It was my honor to grow up with her and know her through college. She and her husband, John, met at UGA where a bunch of us were freshman. The quickly became “soul mates” and, I am told, remained so until her passing. Our hearts and prayers go out to John and all of her family. Byron Camp
