April 23, 1918 ~ April 28, 2012

Resided in: Sandy Springs, GA

Born in Atlanta, Margaret moved often during her childhood as her father’s work took the family to Florida, Massachusetts, and Kentucky. She attended the University of Kentucky before moving with her parents and two sisters to Knoxville, Tennessee, where they settled.
In the 1940’s, she worked at TVA and also met her future husband, Billy B. Humphreys, who was an ROTC student at the University of Tennessee. During his career as an Army officer, his postings took them to Germany twice, as well as Paris, France and Illinois, Virginia, Kentucky and Alaska in the United States. The family was in Alaska during the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964. After a further stint at the Pentagon, they settled in Knoxville upon his retirement at the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Following her husband’s death in 1975, Margaret worked in the UT Library system until she retired. She then moved to Atlanta to be near family. She lived for 12 years at Mount Vernon Village, an independent living facility in Sandy Springs, where she had many friends and had just celebrated her 94th birthday. Margaret was amazingly healthy and independent, driving until the age of 93 and walking unaided until just the last months of her life. Even at the age of 94, her death is a shock to her family, and she will be deeply missed.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Margaret Cook Atlanta, son Rogan Hazard and grandson Kent Rand Hazard Tokyo, Japan and sister Joyce McGlothin Knoxville, Tennessee.
