Margaret “Margo” Amelia Bernal Foote
November 28, 1920 – June 23, 2012

Lovingly surrounded by her children, on Saturday afternoon our mother, known to many as Margo, passed away and went to be with the Lord. Her vibrant smile, her contagious laugh, her lively stories, and her strong faith will be greatly missed by all.

Margo was born in Montgomery, Alabama Nov. 28, 1920 to Fitzgerald and Amelia Bazemore Bernal, but spent most of her life in Atlanta. She attended Girls High School and Georgia Evening College. In September of 1941, she married George Post Foote, II, an Atlanta architect, at First Baptist Church of Atlanta. In 1950, Margo and George opened The Pacer, a contemporary furniture showroom and design center. They both loved modern art and were actively involved in the beginning years of the Atlanta Arts Festival.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, her brother Gerald Edwin Bernal, and her great grandson Carter Martin. She is survived by her four children: George Post Foote, III Nancy Ames, IA; Merrilee Martin Jon Atlanta, GA; Elinor Steele Zegelbone Chuck Orlando, FL; and Helen Marcks Jay Green Bay, WI. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Margo’s life will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 27 at KingsBridge in the 1st floor Pavilion, 3055 Briarcliff Rd, Atlanta 30329. Visitation with the family will follow from 12:00-1:00PM at KingsBridge.
