Lois Ann (McGauvran) Filkins
Born January 25, 1935
Died November 19, 2022
Lois Ann (McGauvran) Filkins passed peacefully at her daughter’s residence in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 19, 2022. Lois was born on January 25, 1935, in Fulton, Illinois, to her late parents, John and Dorothea McGauvran. As a child, Lois was raised in the Lutheran faith and was confirmed as a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Frank Elliott Filkins, whom she met on a blind date during her college years. Their only child, Tammy Filkins, was with her mother when she passed. Lois is also survived by four brothers and their families, Ron McGauvran (Jan) of LeClaire, Iowa, Jim McGauvran (Carol) of DeLand, Florida, Terry McGauvran (Sandy) of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Tom McGauvran (Sue), of Marietta, Georgia.
Lois was a 1953 graduate of Clinton High School and a 1957 graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. After marrying Frank in September 1957, they moved a number of times starting with a brief stay in Lincoln, Nebraska. From there they made a home in Atlanta, Georgia; Clinton, Iowa; Aurora, Illinois; Mishawaka, Indiana; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Bluffton, South Carolina.
Lois was a homemaker until Tammy left for college. She then spent a good part of her working life with a large law practice in Charlotte, North Carolina. When she and Frank eventually moved to Bluffton, she retired and enjoyed cooking with Frank, working crossword puzzles, and reading for pleasure. Lois and Frank were also big fans of Notre Dame sports and Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves baseball.
Lois will be missed by her daughter Tammy, her brothers and members of their families, and all others who were part of her life.
