Lavena Mae Adams
Mrs. Lavena Mae Adams (Ledford), age 76, died at home in Cornelia, GA Tuesday July 25th, 2023. Lavena spent her last days surrounded by her loving family.
Lavena was born on May 30th, 1947, in the small town of Kannapolis, North Carolina. She had fond memories of playing with friends and family in the mountains. She graduated from Charles D. Owen High School in 1965. From there, Lavena moved to Atlanta with her mother and siblings. She met Doug shortly after and they married on April 8th, 1966. They were married over forty-eight years before Doug’s passing on February 16th, 2014.
Lavena worked at the VA hospital, US Fish & Wildlife, and lastly ATF, retiring in 2004. She had a very successful career at ATF as an Intelligence Research Analyst. She developed many friendships during her career with the Federal Government that she treasured over the years.
Lavena and Doug enjoyed traveling together all over the US. They enjoyed their cabin in Ellijay, GA and moved there after retirement. Lavena especially loved her naps on the front porch swing. Lavena also enjoyed sharing her political opinions with the local newspaper The Times Courier.
Lavena was very generous. She donated to numerous charities, being most compassionate with St. Jude’s Hospital & the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She was always there for family and
friends when in need. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially for their birthdays and at Christmas.
Lavena loved her dogs, Jack, Audrey, Maggie and Emmy. She enjoyed reading, playing solitaire, and shopping, especially at QVC. She was a collector of pottery and various art pieces. Lavena loved the Christmas holidays. She enjoyed decorating her entire home with the sights and sounds of Christmas. She always made Christmas time so special.
Survivors include her two children; Stephanie (Jerry) and Michael (Renae); five grandchildren Drew, Ryan, Makayla, Reese, and Mason and two great grandsons Britton and Kylar; sisters Malana and Michele, brother David, and many nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Watermark Church in Jackson, GA on August 19th at 1pm
Rest in peace Lavena. You are so loved. May the Lord bless and keep your family.
I remember the good times we had in DC, Glynco or wherever we had a class or meeting. We had fun and learned a lot being ATF’s first IRS’s. Rest in Peace my friend and condolences to your family.
I worked with Lavena for. number of years, she was a very dear person. We had some wonderful, funny times inside and outside of work. Great memories. Sincerest condolences.

I worked with Lavena at ATF in Atlanta and so enjoyed working with her. She was a very caring person and looked out for us. We used to reminisce and laugh about The Andy Griffith Show and our days in North Carolina. I have missed her and know she has traveled on to a better place.
I worked with Lavena for several years at ATF and always loved working with her. She had a great since of humor and always made me laugh. We lived close to each other for a few years and I enjoyed visiting her. She was a awesome lady and I will miss her. Prayers for the family.
I worked with Lavena at ATF and she was such a wonderful funny person who loved her family very much. Boy the stories we talk about between Nancy; Simmons & myself ….those were the good old days …..rest in peace my friend you will be missed ❤️❤️

Lavena always had the most beautiful smile. When we would get together with Malana, Aunt Ruth, Uncle Ross and my daddy it would be a great time! NEVER have I ever laughed so hard. I haven’t seen Lavena in years but I know she is healed. What a reunion she had when she got to heaven.
So sorry for your loss. It is difficult to loose a sister and best friend. May you find peace in the days to come.
