Lacy Buckmaster

Admired for her musical talents, among others, Lacy Buckmaster was loved above all for her deeply kind nature. 

Eleanor Lacy Wright Buckmaster, longtime Atlanta, GA, resident, died February 17, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was 85 years old. Growing up in Crystal Springs, MS, Lacy was the eldest child of the late Romuel Wright and Eleanor Collins Wright. She earned bachelor’s degrees in both Music and English at the University of Mississippi.

Lacy was an accomplished classical pianist, with perfect pitch. She began playing piano and organ at Crystal Springs Methodist Church, confidently playing for the congregation from early childhood. She went on to play timpani in the Ole Miss Orchestra, 1957-1958, and, following her graduation, she moved to Atlanta to study piano with the late Powell Everhart. Over the course of her life, her music graced many charitable, civic and social events in the Atlanta area. Lacy particularly enjoyed opportunities to play at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip, her spiritual home.

Teaching piano and sharing her love of music, Lacy inspired many students, of all ages.

She was also an avid tennis player, playing on many ALTA and USTA teams and at the Capital City Club.

Married in Crystal Springs, March 30, 1963, Lacy is survived by her loving family, including husband, Samuel Arthur Buckmaster, Jr.; son, Samuel Arthur Buckmaster III, Memphis, TN; granddaughter, Elizabeth Katelyn “Katie” Buckmaster, Miami, FL; brothers Romuel Collins Wright (Julia), Highlands Ranch, CO; Carroll Gregory Wright (Sherry), Bonita Springs, FL; Nicolas Massey Wright, Richardson, TX, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lacy was loved by friends and family alike. As a mother and wife, it’s difficult to imagine how she could have loved her family more. Lacy was admired for her talents, but adored for her sweet nature. She had a rare ability to remember names and details of people and their children. An unkind word never came from her mouth. She will be missed.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 2:00pm at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30305.
