Kenneth Douglas Johnston

Kenneth “Kenny / KJ” Johnston, 62, died unexpectedly on December 31, 2014.
Kenny was born on December 20, 1952 to Donald and Wilma Johnston in his grandmother’s house in Glencoe, Alabama. He is survived by his sister Barbara Rowell Larry of Albertville, AL; sister Martha Snellings Jerry Albertville; brother Franklin Cricket Albertville; niece Becky Shores Robert Albertville; and nephew Phillip Bell of Hayden, AL. Kenny is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins and leaves behind a sizeable network of friends and associates in Atlanta. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Randall, Billy Joe and Bobby Johnston.
Kenny, who moved to the Inman Park neighborhood of Atlanta nearly 40 years ago, was an accomplished carpenter and talented tradesman. He had an infectious laugh, generous spirit and a passion for helping others. His compassion and generosity were further exemplified at the end of his short life when he gave the incredible gift of organ donation to better the lives of others.
He rarely met a problem he couldn’t solve and he may be the sole reason that many homes, businesses, cars and machinery continue to operate today. He had a quick wit and put others at ease with his unflappable approach to problem solving. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at Kenny’s home away from home, Jack’s Pizza in Inman Park. A memorial service will be held at Kiwanis Pier in Guntersville, AL followed by a scattering of ashes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kenneth Johnston Family Benefit Memorial Account to offset the family’s travel expenses Wells Fargo account #2448255212.
