Joyce Carver

Joyce Ann Wagner Carver completed her earthly journey on January 1, 2025.
Born September 23, 1936 in Barberton, Ohio, Joyce was the youngest of three children born to the late Blanche Amy Brubaker Wagner Gates. She was preceded in death by her step-father Henry Gates, and her siblings Patsy Wagner Hosfield and Dale Wagner. Joyce attended Kenmore High School where she was an excellent student, cheerleader, and choir member. She graduated from Kenmore a year ahead of her class (1953) and attended Milligan College. In 1955 she married her high school sweetheart Billy G. Carver. They had 4 children in less than 7 years.
A full-time mom and homemaker, Joyce began working outside the home as a secretary for the Akron Public School System and then the Akron Teachers Credit Union. Joyce was a faithful member of the Church of Christ where Bill served as a deacon. Upon moving to Auburn, GA in 1981, she and Bill were leaders in the Winder Church of Christ. In addition, Joyce worked 17 years as a Financial Analyst for the Gwinnett County government. She retired in 1997.
Joyce loved to play cards (euchre), host dinner parties for church members and, of course, enjoyed pampering her dogs. Joyce’s soprano voice was truly a gift from God. She soared above many a choir and congregation on solos and was often requested to sing for weddings and funerals. A nature lover, Joyce enjoyed gardening and feeding wild birds. An excellent cook, Joyce’s house was always filled with the aroma of great dishes that fed both body and soul.
Joyce is survived by her children Mark Andrew Carver of Seagrove, NC, Cathy Ann Carver of Athens GA, Amy Elizabeth Carver and Lori Dunsmore of Athens, GA, Christopher Green Carver and wife Joan of Acworth, GA. Grandchildren Billy Earl Carver, Joseph Green Carver and wife Leah; Katherine Grace Carver Terry and husband TJ Terry, William Christopher Carver, Anna Grace Carver, and Elizabeth Joyce Carver. Great Grandchildren Lucy Carver, Ellie Carver, Livia Carver, and Rylin Carver. Nieces Debbie Hosfield Ledgerwood, Susan Hosfield Ham, Jennifer Wagner Sharp, Kay Wagner Singleton, Melissa Wigal Flaherty. Nephews Tim Wigal, Terry Wigal, Steve Hosfield.
The Carver family is especially thankful that Joyce is now at peace with her Lord and singing in the heavenly choir with her favorite tenor, Bill. The Carvers are also extremely grateful for the services of St. Mary’s Hospice and want them to know how loved they are by all of us.
A Memorial Service will be held at West Metro church of Christ 4550 Hiram-Sudie Rd. Hiram, GA 30141 on Sunday Jan. 5 at 3:30 pm.
