Joyce Carnes House

Joyce Carnes House passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the age of 82. She was born in Rome, GA on June 28th to her parents, the late James Richard Carnes and Ruth Edwards Carnes.
Raised in Rome, Joyce graduated from Berry College with a BS degree in Home Economics. She went on to teach Home Economics at Douglas County High School for 33 years before retiring. After retirement from the school system, Joyce worked at Gold’s Gym for a number of years; she loved staying busy and meeting new people.
She enjoyed serving her community by volunteering at the election poles, Mt. Carmel Elementary School, Brighton Academy, Loving Hands and as a pink lady at Wellstar Douglas Hospital. Joyce was an active member at the First United Methodist Church in Douglasville.
In addition to touching and influencing so many lives throughout her career, Joyce enjoyed hobbies such as cross stitching, gardening, traveling and sewing. She had a love for all types of music including show tunes, big band, country and Elvis. During her years in college, she was on the All Star Basketball team. She enjoyed watching women’s basketball and was an avid Georgia Tech football fan.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. House was preceded in death by her sister Jean Ann Carnes. Joyce is survived by her children; her daughter, Cindy Hudson and her husband Scott; and her son Bob House and his wife Christy. She is also survived by her brother James Carnes and her grandchildren Kristen Sellers and her husband Stephen; Ryan Hudson, Garrison and Ashley House.
The funeral for Mrs. House will take place at the First Baptist Church in Douglasville, GA on Saturday, July 18th at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. John Pennington officiating. There will be a celebration of life in the atrium following the service.
