Jo Ann Merritt Weinberg

Jo Ann Merritt Weinberg, the beloved daughter of Olin and Marie Merritt, was born in Marietta, Georgia. A proud alumna of Marietta High School (1957), Jo Ann carried her strong roots and love of family throughout her life. In 1981, Jo Ann married her soulmate, Walter M. Weinberg. Their 43 years of marriage were a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, with Walter’s daughter Jamie Jefkin, they built a life filled with cherished memories, shared laughter, and companionship.
In her younger years, Jo Ann was a talented seamstress, and often crafted her own clothes. Her grace and poise were matched by her warmth and devotion to family. As the eldest sibling, she is lovingly remembered by her brother James and sister Reba as their “mother’s helper.” Jo Ann cherished hosting holiday gatherings that brought loved ones together, filling her home with joy.
The majority of Jo Ann’s career was dedicated to the Hardin Construction Group, where she broke barriers as the company’s first female Vice President, overseeing Human Resources with steadfast dedication and integrity.
Outside of work, Jo Ann and Walter were long-time supporters of the Theatre in the Square in Marietta and active members of the Vinings Club, where they shared a love for water aerobics and social gatherings, adding vibrancy to their life together. They also loved to travel – near and far – by land, air, and sea.
Jo Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Walter M. Weinberg; her parents, Olin and Marie Merritt; her brother, Charles Merritt; and her niece, Amy Conn Harley.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure and miss her: her brother, James Merritt (Fina), her sister, Reba Conn (Leland), her sister-in-law, Marianne Weinberg-Benson and step-daughter, Jamie Jefkin. She is also survived by her nephews Jason Conn (Beth) and Kevin Merritt, Jon Benson Jr. and her niece Lisa Merritt and great nieces Bailey Conn, Reagan Conn, and Skye Harley.
A celebration of Jo Ann’s life will be held on January 31st at 11:00 AM in the historic (1870) chapel of Mount Bethel Church, located at 4385 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Dementia Society of America at dementiasociety.org.
