Jennie Dow Falkenstrom

Jennie Dow Falkenstrom, formerly of Columbus, died June 7, 2010 in Atlanta Georgia.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Louis Hackett Dow and Margaret Alice Locke Dow. She was a graduate of Temple University where she majored in music. She taught music in Philadelphia and sang professionally in churches and synagogues.
Jennie was a remarkable woman with many talents. In addition to her music, she was a talented cook and hostess. Jennie’s other great gift was needlework, and she shared her skills selflessly. She generously gave to friends and family, and today her exquisite work graces many homes and churches.
She was married for 61 years to Arthur Lionel Falkenstrom of Bar Harbor, Maine, a officer in the US Army. As an army wife she often had to relocate her family as well as keep the family stable during her husband’s absences. When Art’s military career ended, the family settled in Columbus where he pursued his second career as an attorney. In Columbus Jennie was active in many organizations, including the Military Order of World Wars, the Daughters of the American Colonists, the Medical Center Auxiliary, the legal auxiliary, the Episcopal Church Women and the choir of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
She was predeceased by her husband and her brother, George Stephen Dow. She is survived by her daughters: Karen Falkenstrom Fishman and husband, Jack, Thiela Falkenstrom Schnaufer and husband, Eric; by her grandchildren: Nicholas Dow Schnaufer and wife Valerie, Alice Fishman Brackner and husband Andrew, Emily Fishman Stepp and husband Howie, and by her great-grandchildren: Garrett Elison Schnaufer and Gabriel Patton Schnaufer.
Jennie will be remembered for her grace, kindness and love of family. She was a blessing to those who knew her. She was selfless and thoughtful of others, and embraced with joy and affection her roles in life as daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
