Jean Bendslev Teare, 87, died May 19, 2015 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton after a short illness, surrounded by her three daughters. She is survived by her husband Paul L. Teare, a native of Cleveland, Ohio who is currently residing at the Oaks at Braselton, in Hoschton, GA.
Born Dec. 25, 1927 in Wheeling, WV, she was the only child of the late Arne R. Bendslev and Mildred E. Bauman. Survivors include three daughters: Connie Coleman Cowden Ralph of Hoschton, GA, Catherine A. Coleman of Naples, FL, and Christina Coleman Strickland David of Lavonia, GA. , three grandchildren : Carolyn Cowden Keilman Bryce of Loganville, GA, Alex Cowden of Atlanta, GA, and J. T. Strickland of Lavonia, GA. , stepson Gregory L. Teare Joan of Carmel, IN, and stepgrandchildren Stephanie Teare Burke Steve of Fountain Valley , CA, Erin Teare Vitagliano Chris of Upper Arlington, OH, and Ross M. Teare of Carmel, IN.
Jean was a graduate of Warwood H.S. in Wheeling, WV and Ohio University in Athens, OH where she earned a B.S. in journalism. After college, she was employed by the Wheeling News Register and the Intelligencer as a reporter and feature writer and later served as editor of the Cape Coral Breeze in Cape Coral, FL. She also covered the WV legislature.
Jean was married in 1950 to John Miller Coleman, a partner in the Coleman Laboratories in Wheeling, who was the father of her three daughters. She later married Paul L. Teare in 1976, a lawyer in Wheeling and later a reserve officer in the US Navy. Commander Teare was recalled to duty in 1979, and eventually posted to San Juan, PR where the couple resided until 1995, when they moved to Decatur, GA . There they were longtime, active members of Clairmont Presbyterian Church where a memorial service will be held on Friday, May 22 at 1:00 pm.
Jean was as member of Sigma Kappa sorority at Ohio University and later served as a national officer, including five years as editor of the sorority magazine, the “Triangle”.
