Jane Campbell Carson

Jane Campbell Carson, a longtime resident of Leesburg, died on Monday, Sept. 2, in Atlanta, Georgia, where she had resided since 2006. She was predeceased by her parents, John Merrill Campbell and Jeanette Hendren Campbell, of Eustis, and her brother, John Merrill Campbell, Jr., of St. Augustine. Jane Carson lived an eventful life. She traveled extensively in Europe, India, China, Central America, Southeast Asia, Tahiti, New Zealand, and the former Yugoslavia. She was well known for her paintings of natural settings in Florida and elsewhere, and her portraits of a variety of people. She was active in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Leesburg as parishioner, choir member, and volunteer at the Thrift Store. With her choir she sang before Pope John Paul in Rome. Jane retained her wit,
individuality, and strong values to the end of her life. She is survived by her three
children, James Ricks Carson of Atlanta, Phillip Campbell Carson of Rabun Gap,
Georgia, and Nancy Hendren Carson of Atlanta; and grandchildren Owen Carson
of Brevard, NC, and Graham Carson of Denver, CO; Josh Carson of Macon,
Georgia; Rebekah, Kera, and Taylor Carson of Rabun Gap, Georgia; and Merrill
Robinson of Athens, GA. The family held a private ceremony. She will be interred in Greenwood Cemetery In Eustis in the Campbell Family plot. Gifts in her memory should be sent to the Salvation Army or the Humane Society.
