Jack Thomas Hutchinson
Jack Thomas Hutchinson of Alpharetta in Fulton County, Georgia passed away on July 14, 2012 at the age of 84. Jack was born on August 20, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio. He was the son of Thomas Boyd Hutchinson and Leah Bone Hutchinson of Franklin, Ohio. His ancestors were among the earliest pioneer settlers in Warren County, Ohio. He attended public school in Franklin and graduated in the Class of 1945 as Valedictorian.
World War II ended that summer and Jack served in the Army Air Corps from 1945 until August, 1947 in Texas, Illinois, North Carolina and New Jersey. He entered Miami University at Oxford, Ohio in Sept. of 1947 and majored in History and Pre-Law. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. Jack graduated from Miami in the spring of 1951 and received a full scholarship to the College of Law at the University of Cincinnati. While there, he served as Desk Editor of the Law Review. He belonged to Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. Upon graduation from law school Jack was employed as an attorney in the Mortgage Loan and Real Estate Investment Office of The Prudential Insurance Co. in Cincinnati.
On August 21, 1954 Jack married Delores Randles of Piqua, Ohio. They met in 1950 during their college years at Oxford, Ohio. Delores, “Dee”, graduated from Western College for Women in 1954. Jack and Dee lived in College Hill, Cincinnati until 1971. They have three daughters, Melissa, Carol and Elizabeth. In 1971 the family moved to Dunwoody, Georgia when Jack joined the Atlanta Prudential Real Estate Office. His Prudential legal career spanned thirty-three years and he retired in 1988.
Jack served as a Presbyterian Deacon and Elder and was active in the church in both Ohio and Georgia. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, the Sons of the American Revolution and both the Historical and the Genealogical Societies of Warren County, Ohio. For many years he was a member of the Cincinnati and Atlanta Civil War Round Tables, serving a term as President of each. He was made an honorary Kentucky Colonel for his talk on Kentucky in the Civil War, “Blue Grass and Mountain Laurel”. He often gave talks before many organizations on the History of Georgia.
Jack wrote and published two books: “Leaves from the Tree” 1984, a 632 page book telling the stories of his ancestors and “Divided Loyalties”, a 366 page book about the Border States of the Upper South in the Civil War.
Jack was always a devoted husband to his wife, loving father to this three daughters and grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Josh Turner, Andy Turner, Christin Johnson, Jenny Johnson, Wesley Moran, Michael Moran and Sarah Moran. He was a conversationalist, humorist, and great storyteller. He enjoyed friendships and social life. Jack and Dee took many wonderful trips together in both the United States and Europe. They thoroughly enjoyed their condo overlooking the Gulf of Mexico on Siesta Key off the coast of Sarasota.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dee Hutchinson, daughters Melissa Hutchinson, Carol Ron Johnson and Liz Tom Moran, his grandchildren, cousin Charles W. Unglesby, sister in-law Helen Hutchinson, nieces Elaine Skryzpiec, Mary Esteve and nephew Tom Hutchinson. He was predeceased by his brother Robert B. Hutchinson.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Historic Sanctuary of Roswell Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, reception to follow at the church.
