Helen Rhodes Hannah 102 passed away July 19 in her home surrounded by her four daughters.
In the 1930’s and 40’s Helen was a sought after portrait photographer, documenting through her lens the
lives of Lynchburg, VA families. Today many of her photographs remain with the Lynchburg Museum.
At the age of 100, Helen was honored with an exhibit of her photographs at the Fauber Art Gallery,
Lynchburg. Her love of travel and independent spirit included Europe 1937 and photographs from that
trip have become part of the Anne Frank Exhibit in Atlanta.

She was a life long volunteer, world traveler, wonderful mother and friend to many. She is survived by
four daughters, Sheila Duggan Edmund, Beverly Booth Lamar, Archer Hannah Eddie of Atlanta
and Susan Hannah Ian of New York City; grandchildren: Susan deMarcellus, Jim Duggan, Elizabeth
Jones, Megan Ward, Hannah Ward, Shanna Keown, John Booth. 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill
Rhodes Marianne, Lynchburg. She was predeceased by her husband, Archer Berry Hannah.

Helen’s family extends gratitude to Hospice Atlanta, her bridge friends and for the recent care of Betty,

“Because I would not stop for Death, He kindly stopped for me.” A memorial service will be held at
the Cathedral of St. Philip, Monday July 23 at 11am. The family will receive guests at 10 am in the
Gould Room.
