Resided in: Acworth, GA

It is with great sadness we announce the loss of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Helen Curtis Bryant. She died peacefully on May 13, 2011 at age 82 after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
“Kitty”, as she was known to friends and family was preceded in death by her father Walter E. Curtis, mother Minnie Dewberry Curtis, and brother Douglas Curtis. She is survived by her husband John W. Bryant of Acworth, daughters Laurie Ellison Skip of St Simons Island, Sheila Hoffman Peter of Savannah, son Terry Bryant of Decatur, and granddaughter Maggie Hoffman. Her surviving siblings are Patrick Curtis of Acworth, Judy Casteel and Ray Barbara Curtis of Rome, and Randall Curtis of Atlanta.
A proud native of Guntersville, Alabama, and a Georgia resident for the last 68 years of her life, Kitty graduated from Rome Girls High School in 1947, married Johnny in ’50, and raised her family there. She worked for many years at the First National Bank of Rome and was an active member of the Fifth Ave Baptist Church. She retired in Acworth, last employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta.
An outspoken person, Kitty was greatly respected for her moral strength and integrity. Loved ones frequently sought her opinions and advice. She led an active life that included frequent outings and trips with her extended family and friends. She had a passion for card games and participated in bridge clubs throughout her life. She spent countless hours “antiquing” and adding to her many collections. Known for her love of animals and nature, she turned her backyard into a wildlife sanctuary, entertained by the activities of the creatures it attracted. Equally amusing were the antics of her beloved dogs, Betsy Glynn, Miss B, and Buttons. Kitty also loved books and reading was always a cherished pastime.
Though a resident of the beautiful Appalachian hills, her favorite places on earth were the beaches and marshes of the Georgia coast. Frequent trips there were her solace. 1
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the St Simons Island Land Trust, PO 24615, St Simons Island, GA 31522 www.sslt.org; a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the natural character of the Island: or your local Humane Society.
