Gloria F. Frederick
Gloria F. Frederick, 88, died peacefully in her sleep on May 23, 2011 at her home in Atlanta, Georgia surrounded by her loving son Stephen and his wife, Nancy.
Gloria Frederick was born Gloria Faust Schwarzkoph on November 25, 1922 at the Nemo Hotel on Miami Beach, the youngest child of her parents, Adolph and Katie Schwarzkoph. The youngest of four children, Gloria’s parents emigrated to Miami Beach from Hungry, with short stays in New Jersey and Cuba. They opened the first grocery store in Miami Beach in 1921.
Gloria’s life long passion was dancing, and she excelled. After graduating from high school in Miami Beach, she followed her dream of becoming a professional dancer to New York City where she performed in vaudeville on Broadway. After a serious accident shortened here performing career, she opened and operated dance studios in New York and back in Miami.
Gloria met her future husband, Raymond Herman Frederick, while he was stationed with the U.S. Army in Miami Beach during World War II. After a short time living in upstate New York where they owned and operated a Inn and restaurant, Gloria and Raymond relocated permanently to Miami Beach with their two young sons, Stephen and Barry.
For most of her life, Gloria was a loving mother, devoted wife and homemaker to her family. Following her husbands death in 1962, Gloria started a new carer as a court clerk with the Dade County Fla. court system. Upon her retirement in 1990, Gloria relocated from her beloved Miami Beach to Atlanta, Georgia to be closer to her son, Stephen.
Gloria is survived by her eldest son, Stephen and his wife Nancy, her nieces Evelyn Marra of Reading, Massachusetts, Cathy Wolfson of Brooklyn, New York and Helen Whitehouse of Lombard, Illinois, a niece in-law, June March, of Marietta, Georgia and several grand nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Raymond, and her youngest son, Barry.
Pursuant to Gloria’s wishes, her remains were cremated. A small celebration of her life will be conducted at the Fountainview Center in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, well wishers are asked to contribute to either the Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia or the National Alzheimer’s Association.
