George William Bill Masters, 87, of Athens, GA, and formerly of Lexington, SC, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Masters was born February 13, 1928, in Savannah, GA, the son of Earl Masters and Mary Floyd Masters. He attended Savannah High School. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard World War II and U.S. Navy Korean Conflict. He was employed with the W. D. Alexander Company, which was later acquired by the General Electric Company, from which he retired. Mr. Masters was an active member of Lexington United Methodist Church and the Country Club of Lexington. He served terms as President of the Lexington Lions Club and Post Commander of American Legion Post 7. His love of baseball led him to coach little league baseball and church league softball for many years.
Mr. Masters is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edith Tippins Masters of Athens, GA; two sons and their wives, Bill Masters, Jr. Blynn of Alpharetta, GA, and Art Masters Ramona of Watkinsville, GA; three grand-children, Steely Masters and Hadley Masters of Alpharetta, GA., and Wil Masters of Watkinsville, GA.
A memorial service will be held at Lexington United Methodist Church on Saturday November 21 at 2pm, visitation to follow at the church.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Lexington United Methodist Church or the American Legion Post 7 baseball program.
