George Ball, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, and accomplished lawyer, peacefully passed away on April 21 at the age of 74. Born in California, George’s childhood as a military child led him to various locations, including his favorite duty station, Hawaii, where he graduated from the prestigious Punahou School.

After completing his undergraduate studies in Industrial Management at Georgia Institute of Technology, George pursued higher education at Georgia State University, earning a Master of Business Administration. He later obtained his Juris Doctor (JD) from George Mason University.

In his professional life, Geof soared as a lawyer, ultimately attaining the esteemed role of Chief Magistrate for Alexandria County, Virginia. His unwavering commitment to justice, fairness, and integrity garnered widespread respect and admiration.

Beyond his career, Geof found his greatest joy in family life. His marriage to Debra Walker produced two children, Vivian and George, III. Geof was a devoted grandfather to MJ and Walker Greentree, and Ellis Ball, taking immense pride in their accomplishments and often sharing texts about their days.

Geof had a passion for both Western movies and Science Fiction novels, and his extensive knowledge of both genres was renowned. He had a soft spot for any type of dog and was known amongst all his friends for his affinity for furry companions. His cat Callie, recently adopted, will miss his daily treats and mouse games but is looking forward to being take care of by Walker Greentree.

Geof leaves behind a legacy of love, many decks of playing cards and reading glasses, a belief in a job done well, and the importance of resilience that will be cherished by all who knew him. A small celebration of George’s life will take place in the fall, but not on a Georgia Tech football game date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local pet rescue in his memory. And, please share your favorite Geof story below so we can all enjoy reminiscing with you.

May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who mourn his loss.
