Frances Smith Simonton, 84, passed away on October 15, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband Benton Simonton. Frances was born June 30, 1929 in Valdosta, GA and grew up in the Morningside area of Atlanta. Frances attended North Fulton High School and graduated from Agnes Scott College in 1951.
Frances was a long time member of the Church of the Atonement where she served faithfully on the Altar Guild. Frances loved playing and winning! bridge with her lifelong friends.
Frances was an avid and accomplished golfer. She won the Cherokee Town and Country Club Women’s Championship in 1984, 1988 and 1989. Frances also won Cherokee’s Senior Women’s Club Championship in 1989 and 1991. She competed in numerous Georgia State Golf Association Events. She was a past president of the Cherokee Women’s Golf Association and Atlanta Women’s Golf Association.
Frances is survived by children Jon and his children Benton and Emily, Shelley Simonton Roberts and her children Elizabeth Roberts Brown and Bobby, Mark and his wife Dee and their children Cy and J, and Peter and his wife Dorothy and great grandson Hamilton Brown.
A memorial service will be held October 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Atonement, 4945 High Point Road, Atlanta GA 30342.
I lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Church of the Atonement in honor of Frances Simonton.
