Evelyn S. Samford

Evelyn Sykes Samford, 87, was born May 6, 1924 in Homestead, FL to William and Dorothy Sykes. She went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Northside Hospital in Canton, GA after a brief illness. Evelyn is survived by her twin brother, John Sykes of Sebastian, FL; daughter, Susan Shackelford and husband Steve of Columbus; son, Bristow Samford and wife Karen of Woodstock; seven grandchildren Jackson Shackelford, Brittny Shackelford, Howie Shackelford, Bristow Samford, Waldrop Samford, Brianna Shackelford and Ty Samford. She was preceded in death by her husband Brit in1996, brother Bob and sister Billie, along with her parents.
Evelyn worked at a radio station in Miami, Florida before marrying her husband, Brit, they owned and built a successful construction company together in Miami for many years. They lived in Florida until hurricane Andrew moved them to Georgia. Evelyn lived close to her children in Peachtree City, Georgia for many years until moving in with her son. She loved her family very much. She was a member of the Bascomb United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 13, at 6 p.m. at Bascomb United Methodist Church in Woodstock, GA. Rev. Millie Kim will be officiating.
