Eloise Johnson, Age 87
Born February 19, 1925, in Benton, Illinois. Her parents, Lucille and Lavo Smith, moved to Chicago, Illinois, when she was two years old so she grew up on the south side of Chicago Roseland. She attended Beverly Business College and worked as a secretary.
After marrying Harry Johnson she moved to Skokie, Illinois, and later to Marietta, Georgia, in 1979. She worked as a real estate agent for Harry Norman, Realtors for eleven years. Upon retirement she became more involved in Peachtree Presbyterian Church serving on the board of Presbyterian Women and as Moderator. She also enjoyed many years as a member of the Gene Wilson Sunday School Class.
Eloise was a member of The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and was especially interested in their Literacy program at the Adult Rehabilitation Center and tutored several men in reading. She also served as Publicity Chairman for the auxiliary.
Eloise’s husband, Harry, of 52 years predeceased her as did her brother Tom Smith. Her sister Beth Snarr survives her, as well as her three sons, their wives, five grandchildren, and one great-grandson. They are: Scott and Linda Johnson, Houston, TX; Randall and Susan Johnson, Gainesville, GA; and Curtis and Andrea Johnson of Mt. Prospect, IL.
Her grandchildren are: Daniel Johnson, Nashville, TN; Eric Johnson, Atlanta, GA; Laura Rumohr Mrs. Bain Evanston, IL; Kimberly Johnson, Atlanta, GA; Stephen Johnson, of New York City and a great-grandson, Wesley Rumohr.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11 o’clock Friday, September 21st at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, in Kellett Chapel, 3434 Roswell Road NW, Atlanta, GA. Following the service, a light lunch will be served. As she requested her body will be cremated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, 1190 W. Druid Hills Dr., Suite 150 Atlanta, GA 30329.
