Eloise Hester Iddings
Eloise Hester Iddings, age 96, passed from this life to the next on October 8 in Roswell, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl W. Iddings and is survived by her daughter Sue Curro and son-in-law John of Roswell, son Carl Iddings and daughter-in-law Moniquea of Carrollton, TX, 3 nephews, Bill Hester of Charlotte, NC, John Hester of Raleigh, NC and Frank Moore of Mechanicsville, VA, 1 niece Barbara Slobodzian of Raleigh, NC, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was the last of the 10 children of Ella Lee Hester and Alonzo Franklin Hester. Eloise lived most of her life in Raleigh, NC where in addition to raising her children, she had a career outside the home. She used her accounting and finance training to work for the U.S. Treasury and then in private business for Gray and Creech, where she retired as Director of the Billing Department. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association for more than 32 years and in 1997 was recognized as the Women of the Year for her chapter. She attended Edenton Street United Methodist Church and was secretary of her Sunday School class there for 18 years. After retiring, she donated her time to many organizations including the Rescue Mission, Meals on Wheels, North Carolina Preservation Society and the North Carolina Library for the Blind. Eloise was a loving, caring person who devoted herself to her family and to helping everyone she knew. She will be greatly missed by all. The family will receive friends on October 17 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home at 300 St. Mary’s Street in Raleigh from 10am to 11am. A graveside service at Historic Oakwood Cemetery will follow.
