Edwin Cary Anderson
Edwin Cary Anderson, age 87, died on Saturday July 28, 2012 at his home in Atlanta, GA. He was born in Macon, GA but grew up in Chattanooga, TN. After attending McCallie Preparatory School in Chattanooga, he joined the army in 1943. He served in the 66th Panther Infantry Division in the field of Intelligence and Reconnaissance. He received three battle stars and was awarded the Bronze Star metal. After the war, he attended Emory University where he was president of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and was a member of the ODK Leadership Society.
After graduating from college in 1949, he joined IBM and subsequently Barry Wright Corporation where he was the Director of Product Development. After retiring, he worked endlessly in a number of different chartable organizations including World Vision, Salvation Army and MARR.
He was a member of St John United Methodist Church for over 50 years and served on the finance committee for the last 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Olga G.Anderson. He is survived by his children: Ellen Burns, Cary “Smokie” Anderson and his wife Kari, Lori Tucker and her husband Bob. He is survived by 6 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday August 4, 2012 at St John United Methodist Church, 550 Mt. Paran Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30327. The family will receive guests 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St John United Methodist Church or MARR, P.O. Box 48349, Doraville, GA 30362.
