Edward G Robinson, 86, beloved father of five, grandfather to twelve, and great grandfather to one, died at his home in Atlanta on Wednesday, August 15th. Born on October 3, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Kathryn R Robinson (nee Stoneback) and Edward L Robinson. He attended Willoughby Union HS where his musical talent blossomed. Edward found himself seated next to his future wife, Pauline M Robinson, in the tenth grade. After starting college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, he joined the Air Force and served in Anchorage, Alaska during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Nearing the end of his tour of duty, he reunited with Pauline and they married in June 1954. While working full-time with three young children, he finished college at Cleveland State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Degree in 1960. As a logistics expert for Container Corporation of America and Robert Bosch USA, he moved his family from Ohio to Illinois in 1965, and then to Atlanta in 1969. Active many years at First Christian Church of Decatur and later at Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta, Ed was an enthusiastic participant in church life, both in leadership positions and as a member of the choir. He was also an avid runner and tennis player well into his 60’s.

Following wife Pauline’s death in 2010 Ed married Anne Schleicher Prince whose love and support followed him upon entering assisted living to meet the needs of his Alzheimer disease. He gained two stepdaughters and their lovely families.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents Kathryn and Edward Robinson, and his wife Pauline Robinson, and is survived by sisters Kathryn Gambatese (Mike) and Joyce Dirrman (Richard, deceased), half-brother Dr Perry W Robinson, daughters Beth Witkowski (John) and Julie Thomas (Scott), three sons Jeff Robinson, Mark Robinson, and Tim Robinson (Tenley), twelve grandchildren: Joshua, Charles, and Lydia Witkowski (Beth), Elijah, Leah, Josiah, Hannah, and Isaiah Thomas (Julie), Madelyn and Jessica Robinson (Mark), Alexis and Gibbs Robinson (Tim), and one great granddaughter Addison (Charles). His memory will also be cherished by nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.

  1. Joyce Robinson Dirrman says:

My heart hurts now, however, I will rely on my faith to sustain me in the days and months ahead. Ed was more than a Brother to me, he was like a Father in so many respects even though we were only five years apart…this due to two very dysfunctional parents. He was always there for me, advising and encouraging as needed. He and my lovely Sister-in-Law, Pauline, did their absolute best to assist in my growth as an adult…together they led me to Christ and an active life in my own Church. If it had not been for Ed and Pauline, I doubt I would have had the strength to have my children and raise them in the manner in which we did! Both were such marvelous examples of caring siblings. I will always be so proud of both of them and their accomplishments not only professionally but as decent human beings who together made the world a bit better by their having been in it! I will miss Ed tremendously but know and rely on the Promise made by our loving Lord Jesus that we will be reunited in a much better place.

  2. Johnny Tucker says:

My wife Lori and I are so sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Robinson. We are mother and father-in-law to Leah Tucker. She is so loving towards her grandfather. We pray God’s blessing for your family. May He comfort each of you during this time of sorrow.
    Sincerely,
    Johnny and Lori Tucker

  3. Lois Rigwood says:

As a dear friend to Beth, I can see the amazing love that Edward and Pauline bestowed on their family and children. His passing leaves me with a heavy heart, but I know his love and wisdom are carried on in the family, and he is with God now — no more suffering. My sincere sympathy to Beth and all the family. Sincerely, Lois Rigwood
