Edmond Irving Swensen, age 87, of Dunwoody, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 17, 2013. Ed was a native of Rhinelander, Wisconsin and attended high school there.

He joined the Navy early at the age of 17 and served in WWII in both the European and Pacific Theaters and participated in the D-Day invasion of Europe at Omaha Beach. He was also stationed in Japan at the end of the war. Afterwards, he received a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Michigan Technological University, and he went on to serve in the Korean War. After the Korean War, he joined the Forest Service division of the US Department of Agriculture and lived in Puerto Rico, Mississippi, Arkansas, and finally Georgia where he and his family settled into Dunwoody in 1976.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ardis Swensen, and their 3 children: Eric and wife Amy of Houston, Texas, Gerda Swensen of Dunwoody, and Karl and wife Susan also of Dunwoody. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren: Anna, Scott, and Amelia Swensen. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond C and Bernice Swensen, and his sister, Lorraine Nettleship. Until the time of his death, he and his wife spent every summer at their cottage in northern Wisconsin, enjoying the activities and wildlife on the lake. Ed was a member of Cross and Crown Lutheran Church of Chamblee, Georgia.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7th at 2pm at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 4276 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd, Chamblee, GA 300341. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ed, to Cross and Crown Lutheran Church or Michigan Technological University at 1400 Townsend Dr. Houghton, MI. 49931
