Donna Marie Moe Woods, 97 years old, of Suwanee, Georgia, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, passed away on January 1, 2016. Donna was born on August 5, 1918 to Emma Caroline Hovi and Irving Nelson Moe. She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School at age 16. While attending the Norwegian American Hospital Nursing School in Chicago, Illinois, she met Roy Ernest Woods. Roy and Donna were married October 12, 1940 at Shiloh Moravian Church in Sturgeon Bay. Donna worked as a RN until they started their family, and after Roy returned from his service in WWII, the family settled in Elmhurst, Illinois. Once their children were teenagers Donna returned to nursing part time at the Elmhurst Hospital.
Upon their retirement in 1976, the couple moved full time to their cherry and pear farm in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Many happy years were spent working their orchards and enjoying family, friends, travel, and involvement in Door County Wisconsin community service and life.
After Roy passed away in 2008, Donna moved into a retirement apartment at Discovery Noble Village in Suwanee, Georgia to be close to her daughter and grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed her independence there and was very socially active with exercise, all types of games, bingo, arts and crafts, playing piano, lunch outings, happy hours, and any event that called for dressing up, costumes, and FUN.
Throughout her life Donna enjoyed pursuits of all types including sewing, crafts, gardening and Garden Club, reading, puzzles, riddles, games of wit, traveling, the history of Sturgeon Bay, Church, Faith Circle, and Eastern Star. She attended Shiloh Moravian Church, is a lifetime member of Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church, and recently joined Sugarloaf United Methodist Church, Duluth, Georgia.
She is survived by a son, Robert Irving Woods of Elmhurst, Illinois; a daughter, Janet Marie Tim Joyce of Johns Creek, Georgia; two granddaughters, Kimberly Ann Jon Erickson of Johns Creek, Georgia and Tamara Lyn Stephen Pirkle of Sandy Springs, Georgia; a grandson, Brian Linda Joyce of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Tyler, Anna Paige, and Grace Ann Erickson; honorary son/nephew Eric Moe of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; and other beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Irving Moe Jr, Eileen Moe Hansen, and Leland Moe, her husband Roy Woods, and son John Woods.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Sugarloaf United Methodist Church, in the Art Center at 11am Sat. Jan. 9th, 2016, with lunch to follow. 1795 Old Peachtree Rd. Duluth, GA. 30097.
An additional service will be held in the spring of 2016, at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church, with internment at Shiloh Moravian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sugarloaf UMC or to Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church.
