David Edey Stone

David Edey Stone of Marietta, Georgia, born in Summit, New Jersey on November 7, 1945, passed away peacefully in Atlanta, Georgia on August 23, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Nancy Stone nee Becker; his children, David Melissa, Patrick Dorothy, William Ellenor, and Kathleen; four grandchildren; and his siblings, John, Dorothy Calmes, and James.

After graduating from Lafayette College in 1968, David was stationed in South Korea as an officer in the United States Army, eventually achieving the rank of Major. In 1977, David obtained a Ph.D in psychology from Cornell University, and began a multifaceted career focused on teaching, counseling, and utilizing technology to improve the lives of others. David’s wide-ranging accomplishments included the development of groundbreaking implementations of computer-based training and education, teaching at SUNY-Albany and Southern Polytechnic, a research fellow appointment at MIT, Industry Advisory Board, an Industry Liaison position at Harvard, founding a company that provides advanced software solutions for medical and education markets, and, most recently, counseling patients as a psychologist at Sweetwater Associates in Lithia Springs, Georgia, where he often used cutting-edge technology and approaches to better serve his patients, including veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Of all of David’s service to others, perhaps his most faithful was to his family: David rarely missed a Sunday dinner with his wife, children, and grandchildren, and always inspired them with his boundless optimism and hope for the future. He also introduced his family to his lifelong love: MacMahan Island, Maine, a place where he spent most of the summers of his life and where he felt most at peace. His family will miss his presence dearly—both on the island and in Atlanta.

A memorial service will take place at Mount Paran North Church of God at 10 a.m. on August 29, followed by a burial at the National Cemetery in Canton.
